Hiya folks. There is a new game sweeping the poker world (hell, at least to me).

They are SNG Double up games. 10 people get in a game and the top five win.

I play the Third Bullet $2.00+.20 game. top 5 each get $4.00.

I played 10 today. and won 7.

The average time of a game is 20 to 30 minutes.

total cost: $22.00    total win: $28.00   profit: $6.00

Fairly easy games, and something that u can play in the background while playing other tourneys or web surfing.

Your thoughts on this game???

Absolutely love them --- they are a quick game, usually less than 45 minutes. Entertaining and fun... and where else is there the opportunity of your entertainment paying you?

I have a buddy at another forum that has given me permission to post his thoughts about this issue. His handle is TMax. Your thoughts on this please:

_____________________________________________

I gave these Double or Nothing tournaments a shot over at PokerStars. 10 players -- top 5 will cash and double up. It seems like a neat concept, but having thought about the numbers, I'm not so sure now.
With Double or Nothing, you have a 50% chance at ALMOST doubling your money -- with rake you're really getting 1.9:1 on your money. No matter how well you play, you'll never get more, and to do this you have to outlast 5 people, and the blind/ante structure is slightly different, more agressive than a regular SnG.
Now if you play a 9 player SnG, on Full Tilt and you outlast 5 people, you're on the bubble -- not cashed yet, but you have a 75% chance of cashing (not counting chipstacks for now) and you have a 25% chance of either finishing 4th, 3rd, 2nd or 1st.
In a Double or Nothing over the long run, you'd need to cash -- outlast 5 people -- in 2/3 of the games you play, just to be ahead. But if you reach the bubble in 2/3 of regular SnG -- and cash in 75% after that... well...
A CONSERVATIVE statistical comparison over a hundred games, out-lasting 5 players 2 out of 3 times:
Double or Nothing $5.50 games; total buy in: $550; total cash: $633.33; total profit:$83.33.
Vs.
SnG 9plyr $5.50 games; total buy in: $550; 4th place finishes x 16.5 ($0); 3rd place finishes 16.5 x $9 = $148.5; 2nd place finishes 16.5 x $13.50 = $222.75; 1st place finishes 16.5 x $22.5 = $371.25
Total cashes: $742.5
Total profit: $192.5
This is just statistical number crunching. But it seems that the person who can make a profit with Double or Nothings is throwing money away by not playing SNGs.
Am I wrong?

The number cruncher is correct if you are only playing one game at a time. At the very least I'm working or playing at least one other game - so thas skews the results quite abit  Grin
