Please be very careful when making deposits to sites that you have previously won freeroll monies from. I won't go as far as listing the names of the site(s), I will tell you what has happened to me and others.

About 3-4 months back I finished 3rd in a 500$ freeroll, I was awarded 55$, I used the winnings for buy ins and cash tables, I ended up losing the 55$, my account was at zero.
Keep in mind that this series of events took place 3-4 months ago, and that I had forgotten all about it, mostly due to the volume of tourneys that I was playing.

Move ahead to 2 weeks ago....

I received an invitation via e-mail from one of the ewallets that I use, the invite was asking me to participate in an added money buy in tourney being sponsored by the wallet.
It was to be played on the same site that I had won the 55$ on. Being that I had no funds on this site, if I wanted to join I would have to deposit. The buy in was 5$ with 5$ rebuy and add on.

In good faith I made a deposit of 20$, I played the tourney and I finished 3rd, I was awarded 39$, after buy in and add on my account was at 10$, with the tourney award added in my account total stood at 49$ and some change.

At the conclusion of the tourney I attempted to withdraw the 49$ back to the ewallet, this is when things went bad.
First I was told my request was pending approval, this seemed routine to me, after 48 hours I made inquiry with regard to my withdraw request, I contacted the poker sites live support, live support informed me that my request had been denied pending 2x rollover of the 55$ in freeroll winnings that I had forgotten about.
What this meant was that I had to pay in to the poker site 110$ in actual rake to free up the 49$ that was now in my account, I would of had to spend hours playing in their ring games to clear 110$ in rake, and I would of had to do all that without getting busted along the way.

I write this in the hope that others don't get trapped into it, so please, be very careful when making deposits at sites where you may have at one time or another won monies in a freeroll, read the fine print, the 2x rule that I just talked about was not in plain site, and when it was pointed out to me I found it vague and difficult to comprehend.

(For additional details, please send me a private message, thank you.)

A very good warning... and that is the major reason I do two things before I start to play at a site

  • I read the TOS
  • I deposit

To be honest all of my bankrolls are from freerolls, I've been playing online for maybe a year an have only made two deposits and after making a little bankroll at the sites I pulled out my deposits. I play after work just to unwind I like it better  then just sitting in front of the TV just vegging  I don't plan on getting rich by playing  so what I'm trying to say I'm a little more then interested in knowing which sites your talking about if anything PM me and let me know which ones.

My poker bankroll started with $50 I deposited to play in a Hurricane Katrina Charity tournament at Doyles...

Since then I withdraw from one site to deposit at another...

If you read the TOS...which everyone should.... you will find that many poker sites will not allow you to withdraw without making a deposit first. Or in lieu of a deposit providing substantial documentation that can be verified to determine you are not a minor.

And many sites require "free money" to be cleared if you are not a depositing player

I just avoid the whole hassle... I will deposit the minimum unless I'm planning on working the deposit bonus... than I will deposit what ever amount I feel I can clear in the allotted time period.

I too look at poker as an entertaining hobby - but unlike most hobbies it has the potential to pay me .... how cool is that?

this post is very interesting all things I did not now
I would off though if you won in a freeroll and lost the
money that once you make a deposte the cashout will be affected.

I had money at reefer poker a merge site that was won from a freeroll a very small amount, that I used to play in ring games and other tournys. I built this up to around $80 without ever making a deposit. Then just last month I deposited the min. played a cpl tournys and a few ring games then cashed out $50  with no problems at all. Either I played enough ring games or after making the deposit  they felt I'd be playing there for some time and went ahead and cashed out my $50. I had the same kind of thing happen with the sites  on the cake network have had no problem cashing out any freeroll money after making a deposit on their sites.

Yep, a good warning, and I like the idea of depositing at a site first--not that I will (cuz I'm broke), but I still like the idea.  At least some people read the TOS!  I'll head on over to the help or support section of a site too before I play if I have any questions or doubts about something.
