I'm really just starting my Omaha hi/Lo adventure.

My Q is: when u get trips in your starting hand....is that good?

Like QQ7Q or 9949

Thanks

Quick answer is NO !  You can only use 2 of your hole cards so you have only about 5 % chance for  the case cards which will give you trips + 2 of the high cards from felt.

Omaha rules are player must only use 2 hole cards to make high hand or low hand with 3 cards from felt period.

I hear ya, and know that basic rule. But damn , it sure looks pretty.

I understand that I would be looking for the case Q in a QQ7Q hand, and the odds are few, but is this a insta fold hand?

Say, u got AA7A, wouldn't you play just cause u got AA? so then if you have QQ7Q, isn't it smart to see the flop, because u do have QQ?

lol, I played both those hands cheap to the turn. Then folded and lost my cheap chips, lol. thanks

So basically trips in your hand is bad, unless it is the A2AA, cause u got the hi and low maybe?

A2AA cheap - it is so easily counterfeited that it is not worth more than a cheap look/see.

In Omaha high low A PERSON has to remember the high pot is guaranteed to be there every hand while the low pot is only if there are 3 felt cards that not paired to make three total felt cards below the number 8!

Best thing to do is if you can get in cheap with a chance to win high pot try it and note the word CHEAP!

Trips or Quads in your Hole Cards takes away straight and flush draws so you may be reducing  your odds of winning either pot especially the high guaranteed pot !  Wink

Straights or flushes not do really count in the low pot.  Example if you have A, 2, 3, 5 and 6 in same suit as low pot and some one has the same unsuited , both players will split the pot, while in the high pot , highest straights and flushes will win!

Agree with all that trips are an instafold.
With the exception of A2AA.
This you want to see a flop with even if it is not so cheap. Especially if the A2 are suited. If there is a qualifying low hand after the flop, this hand is not so easily counterfeited. With three A's, the odds of another player with A2 in the hole are slim. Duece on the board would not be pretty, tho you can still win the low hand, even if a 2 does appear. With a decent flop and aggressive betting, you can force other low hands to fold. Risk of being quartered are (almost) non-existent.
On the high end, a wheel (A2345) is a good candidate to scoop the pot.
If A2 suited, also chance for an A-high flush.
Trips or A+pair on the board = (probably) the nut full house.

A2xx is one of the very best starting hands in Omaha hi/lo, even if the xx = AA, and I definitely want to see a flop with it!
How much I will pay to see the flop depends on the total circumstances, and of course be prepared to dump it if the flop is not in your favor.

Good point was made that the H will always be guaranteed not to split, unless there's a true tie (rare).  Yet the L often DOES split, sometimes into 3...and at that point, you're honestly just chasing your own money.

Omaha is a difficult game for me.  In HORSE, I have to constantly remind myself not to bet too many hands.  What ultimately happens is, that other players seem to RAISE RAISE RAISE, when I'm looking just to get in cheap on calls.  The flop tells it all.

I just recently started playing the omaha H/L games, don't really care for them, to much splitting for my taste, but i just figured it would be good to learn it, in horse i keep forgetting that i'm playing razz, and always screw my self, and i always get some riduculas hands like AAKKJ. JJQQ10 when playing Razz and i get all excited, and i don't need high cards but low ones, lol oh well c ya all soon on the felt.
