Can Nationalities Be Grouped in Poker? That is, what are your thoughts about USA players, English, German, Russian, Romanian,...etc in general.

Are there basic characteristics for players from the various countries that seem to stand out in your opinion?

I'll start it off with some of my own notions; sorry if I offend any country, lol, just saying I feel that a majority of players from the following countries play the following styles in my experience.

Russians: buncha donkeys

Germans: Rocks and unimaginative. conservative

English: think "tony G" brash, ballsy and very good

Romanians: Very loose aggressive

USA: runs all types, generally good

Canada: Great smart players. Most likely to trap

Australians: Lots of fun, great chat banter during play

That's all I got. Hope the "politically correct" crowd doesn't target me now. lol

Might have something to do with the site too. as my experience differs on the following..

I've run into some very good Russian players lately - so they are learning quickly

Germans - very aggressive and not conservative at all

Romanians - majority ATC players but those that are good are exceptionally good poker players

Adding a few

French - ATC and will go to the river with Nada

Bulgarian - ATC and massive overbets... tho I have recently run into a few Bulgarians that trap and bluff - so they too are learning

South Americans - Chili and Brazil have some very good poker players

Central America - Recently played with a Panamanian HU - was a super tough opponent. Not a very big sampling yet so hard to make any judgements

I haven't really seen anything to distinguish nationalities to the point where I can make assumptions about a player based on where they're from.  Stereotypes are probly almost as silly in poker as they are elsewhere, imo.
Germans: Rocks and unimaginative. conservative
This jumped out at me, because by far the laggiest player I've ever played against at a cash table was a German (not that one player is representative of the entire country).

Well, I got the ball rolling with that post. lol

Witchy says germans are very aggresive and not conservative at all

SystEmsuX says the laggiest player ever they know of is german

First off: I could give a fig less about being politically correct. I'm gonna disagree with SystEmsuX, and go ahead and say that stereotypes are not silly in poker, nor are they silly in life. I know that everybody that I have ever met in this world, has their own list of stereotypes, whether they trot them out or not.

I subscribe to the school of thought that says let it hang out and talk about it. lol. For instance, I was born in germany and raised in the USA.  So of course all things german have an immense interest to me. You guys have run into LAG german players a lot it sounds like. I haven't, but then I might be prejudiced because I check out where a player is from (just move that cursor over players buttons) and If I see a german player I pay attention to them a lot. IMHO germans play tight and good.  I really don't think that the germans as a whole can be classified as LAG when you have obvious examples of, say the Romanians, who as a group play very aggressive LAG, that can be compared against them.

Just my thoughts, but I guess it all comes down to where u stand on being politically correct.
