As a rule, When playing at a cash table and you are up in money, When do you leave? Double your stake? Tripple?

Interesting you brought this up today Joey. Last night was having a discussion with another member about this exact same thing

My grandfather played poker every day. He would walk to the local park - in the nice weather everyone played outside and in the bad weather in the park recreation center. He had one rule - he only played for two hours total. If he was having a bad run he would leave the table and take a break. If he was having a good run and was way up - 2 hours arrived - he left the table.

Of late, I haven't had the time to play the cash tables. When I did -  I followed my grandfathers rule and set a total time limit and I've added a bankroll limit. I asked my grandfather why only two hours - his reply -"I don't want to walk home in the dark"  Grin

When I sit I have determined the total time I will play and the amount of my bankroll I will play. If I am working on clearing bonus I may set the time limit as to how many points I want to clear. If I am having a bad run I may take a break or just move to another table. If I lose the funds I allocated to play ---- I leave the table. If I am way up and the total time I allocated to play is up --- I leave the table.

I don't play cash very often but when I do it's low limits.  If the blinds get around to me 3 or 4 times and I haven't gotten any cards I move to another table.  If I'm on a winning streak I'll play until the cards turn and then get out to make sure I have made a profit. If I lose 1/2 my buy in I'm done with cash games for the day.

Grandpa sounds like a very wise man.  I like to set a time limit also.  I find that after a couple of hours the concentration is not as good and will play marginal hands more often.  Also I don't think about the hands and will push a bad pair when the indication is that I am already beat.

I was taught to play in sessions suck as 4 6 or 8 hours and no matter how far up you get or down play the entire session. This is because over a long period of time if your good and play correctly you will be way ahead. In the short term it can be like a rollercoaster now and then but if you leave when your way behind you could have missed the one or two hands you needed and if you leave way ahead you could have been farther ahead cause some days you cant loose but over along period of time you should be turning a profit if you know how to play so be consistent and play the same every day if you want to do it professionaly or profitable.

i would say when your about 30 to 50 dollars ahead    say the table you had to buy in for 20dollars i would leave at 70 if i was winning then come back the next day and try again or move to a different  level  .

I always leave form a cash table when:
1. loose my bankroll allocated for the table.
2. The loose players or the fishes leave the table.
3. when getting tired.
4. when wife yells.
